Slovenia is a beautiful country located in Central Europe, known for its stunning natural landscapes, charming cities, and rich culture. It’s bordered by Austria to the north, Hungary to the northeast, Croatia to the south and southeast, and Italy to the west. The capital city, Ljubljana, is renowned for its picturesque architecture and vibrant atmosphere.
One of the highlights of Slovenia is Lake Bled, a stunning glacial lake surrounded by mountains, featuring a small island with a church at its center. The Triglav National Park, home to the country’s highest peak, Mount Triglav, offers breathtaking hiking opportunities and diverse wildlife.
Slovenia is also known for its wine production, particularly in regions like the Primorska and Posavje, where visitors can enjoy beautiful vineyards and wine tasting experiences. The country has a rich history, with many castles and historical sites to explore, including the impressive Predjama Castle and the medieval town of Piran along the Adriatic coast.
The cuisine reflects a mix of influences from neighboring countries and often features fresh, local ingredients. Traditional dishes include potica (a nut roll cake), štruklji (dough rolls), and delicious stews.
With its friendly people, stunning landscapes, and rich cultural heritage, Slovenia is a fantastic destination for travelers seeking both adventure and relaxation.
there’s this country that kind of flies under the radar even though it’s surrounded by some of central Europe’s most popular destinations tuck between Italy Croatia Austria and Hungary lies Slovenia the most underrated country of the bunch ever heard of it maybe you’ve probably seen a photo of it without even realizing where it was that was us too so once we tracked down this iconic shot we just had to see it for ourselves we’ve got 7 Days in Slovenia in two main goals driving this adventure first we’re
on a mission to find the location that sparked our obsession with this country in the first place and second to find out if this beautiful country is as magical as it seems oh and we’re still running that same fair drop deal that got us to finish for just 500 bucks crazy right so now the only thing to do is to find our way there for starters we set our gabis to Venice caught a water taxi to the mainland took in the sights a few more times along the Lagoon [Music] and hopped on a flick bus out of the country to Luana which cost us about 100
bucks for the both of us this is nice we’re all about finding the joy in Little Things case in point Sarah was thrilled to have a USB port in her seat they’ve got the USBC Port yep pure luxury right there who needs a f-star hotel when you have a fully charged phone in a comfy seat a few hours later and we arrived in slovenia’s capital lublana and we couldn’t have timed it better because we made it just in time for a local weekend tradition so I just found this out like an hour ago but we are here just in time for the adto kuna
which is the open market it runs from March to October and it’s Slovenian chefs coming together putting on this market and having food from all over the world so either we pick the worst time on a Friday night or this is just where everyone in town goes out to eat when the market is running makes sense but this place was packed we thought we’d be a little more adventurous with our first in Slovenia but with these lines nah we ended up just grabbing the first thing we could which turned out to be rips
wasn’t a bad deal either for 13 okay so basically you walk through all the chaos find somewhere to get some food get a beer try and find a table if you can if not you can stand or there’s stairs where everyone else is sitting then you just dig in I will say I was not expecting it to be this chaotic first lvan beer good the market had a little bit of everything comfort food pasta and even a few vegan options that caught our eye so I got us a mushroom burger and Sarah wasn’t exactly a fan not really we
[Music] tried first and only full day in lublana so we are heading to try some Slovenian food stroo maybe it is a rolled dumpling love dumplings so should be good usually made Savory with Meats but they also do have some sweet ones for like a dessert we got Str Str Str I got the banana with milk chocolate and Tony got four chocolate which has four types of chocolate oh my God it smells so good oh my God M my gosh holy cow that is so good it’s like cake inside and then the outside is like doughy and then they
sprinkled chocolate sauce and I think like banana sauce on top of that’s bumb wow you know we get it like a warm brownie it’s that kind of texture just like our stly and coffee set us back about 16 but I think it’s time for us to pump the brakes on the food a little bit and do some exploring Luana is known as the city of Dragons It’s the symbol and protector of this town so we’re going to see if we can find a few of those dragons and check out that big old castle that’s been keeping watch over
the [Music] city the Dragon Bridge has four dragon statues that look just a tiny bit terrifying it’s also one of the main Bridges here in Luana that we cross on our way to the castle now we could have walked up the Steep Hill but honestly after that rot feast and mushroom burger from last night we weren’t exactly in the mood for a workout so we opted for the fular which in all honesty is half of the fun it’s this cool glass cabin that Glides up the hillside giving you a panoramic view of the city as you rise above it
well if you find yourself here in the city you can’t miss this Castle it is a medieval Fortress sitting on top of the hill overlooking the entire city it cost us €32 for the both of us for the bicular up and then entrance to the castle the castle is like a couple of different museums rolled into one you got plenty of medeval history and the story of Slovenia itself but there’s also the museum of puppetry which to be honest looked a little [Applause] freaky there’s also interactive stations for kids or you know adults who are kids
at heart God but being up here helped us learn a little bit more about slovenia’s history in 1991 Slovenia alongside with Croatia declared its independence from Yugoslavia a move that quickly escalated into what will become known as the 10-day War the Yugoslav Army invaded Slovenia and during that brief but intense conflict around 65 people lost their lives for Slovenia the war marked a decisive defense of its independence from Yugoslavia now thriving Slovenia is a forward-looking nation promoting sustainable tourism and fostering a
strong sense of national pride [Music] what the hell is [Music] that that’s something you don’t see every [Music] day I hesitate to say there’s not a lot to do I feel like it’s just more more like local life like there’s just not like a lot of touristy type attractions which can be a good thing honestly yeah and I think that’s the point cuz it’s like you just come here to Vibe out there’s a lot of cafes that line the streets and the rivers and you just eat food drink coffee and enjoy
people watching in the view yeah I will say I think luon is a really great place to have as kind of like a home base there’s a lot of accessible day trips from this area like some caves like bled like bohen the country is not very big so honestly could base yourself out of lublana if you wanted to just kind of explore the other regions we however pick up our car tomorrow so we are still going to explore those areas on a little road trip but if you are not renting a car you can base yourself here and take
buses and trains elsewhere we sat and people watch for a little bit and watch the city come to life with lots of music and live [Applause] performances it’s just so nice to be in a city where there’s no like car tra traffic at least where we’re saying it’s all foot traffic and bikes and scooters and it’s busy but it doesn’t feel touristy which is nice but there’s a ton of people out enjoying their Saturday which is exactly what we’re going to do with some [Music] lunch we ordered the Pudo and cooked ham
sandwiches paired that with a couple of local beers found a nice spot under the shade kick back and watch the boats Glide along the river as the sun started to [Music] set then in true travel style we wrapped up with a [Music] siesta so in the past couple months we’ve traveled to New Zealand and Iceland and Central and South America but this is the first trip that jetl has like really kicked my ass feel like we’ve needed to well not we I have needed to nap for like 3 hours in the afternoon every day just to function
thanks to that nap I’ve got a bit more energy just in time to celebrate lublana Style [Music] [Applause] [Music] the next day we picked up our rental car to head to Lake bled but I had a little detour in mind first we just picked up our rental car it is really nice which I honestly makes me a little nervous I’d rather have like kind of a hunk of junk just just in case anything happens but it literally it feels like a Tesla inside and there’s a lot of really fun features the girl at the rental place
said that this is what all the Slovenian cops drive which I don’t know fun fact I guess but the great thing about the country of Slovenia is that it is pretty small so from lublana which is kind of in the center of the country to any border it’s really like 2 2 and 1/2 hours which is great for us because it means we’re not rushing to see things and I’m literally just like poking at things on Google Maps I’m like wow that looks beautiful it’s an hour detour that way let’s go our final destination for
today is the town of bled and like the lake bled area and I think we’re going to use that as a home base for like the next couple of nights because there’s more in that Northwest region we want to explore but everything’s so beautiful and the weather’s great and I’m so excited we decided to do this road [Music] trip speaking of places that weren’t exactly on our planned route we decided to make a detour to logar Valley and wow this has to be one of the most beautiful Alpine valleys in all of Europe
surrounded by towering Peaks and Lush Greenery it is definitely worth a few extra miles so pretty first time in my life ever seen the Alps me [Music] too the drive to logar Valley took us off track and we have another hour drive to get to Lake blad this stop was well worth the detour though and the drive tour Hotel was pretty easy [Music] so you have any questions uh how long would it take to walk Welcome to our Abode for the next three nights I originally only booked this for one and then I changed it to three cuz we don’t know what else we’re
doing but luckily we met a very friendly man downstairs who works here he wasn’t some random guy who gave us all the itineraries plus two additional Maps so we have a plan now 5 minute walk you end up here in this here you have some exceptional view view points the first one is the easiest one but this is the room this is called Villa Alpena and it is just a 5 minute walk from Lake bled it’s very cozy it has a fridge has like a lot of amenities this is it the next morning we venture to hike out to one of those viewpoints
recommended to us [Music] [Music] we just hiked up to one of the viewpoints here around Lake lead to get a incredible view of the lake and the church and the castle and the town of blood hike is advertised at 20 minutes and it also took us 20 minutes despite me going at a very slow pace it’s generally uphill the whole way and then it does get pretty like kind of a rocky scramble at the last little section here just to get to the top [Music] easily the best view of blood Castle I’m not joking when I say this place could
have been a page ripped out of a fairy [Music] tale we sat back and enjoyed the view a little bit longer before heading [Music] down this might be one of the few places that actually looks better after Sunrise true it’s gorgeous when you get the Sun up higher it reflects and makes the water very blue mhm now we’re going to try to get over there the iconic centerpiece of Lake bled is bled Island 99 steps lead to a church at its Center and you can get to the island any way you want really rent a boat kayak even
swim but the most common way is hiring one of the colorful platina boats to take you for €1 18 you do have to wait for them to fill up before they launch so you aren’t quite on your own time so instead we rented our own rowboat and when we got to the rental shop the guy asked Tony do you know how to row and Tony with full confidence was like yeah of course fast forward to 10 minutes and let’s just say well maybe he’s really out of practice [Music] Tony was so nice to treat me to a private boat driver I have this lovely
View and this lovely ride all to myself I can sing too if you want no singing okay no singing so this is €20 for the hour and according to what we’ve read online it seems like that’s all you really need to like go out to the island kind of walk around a little bit and then row back you can also pay to go into the church and the museum here which I don’t think we’re going to do yeah it’s really [Music] lovely hardest part of all of that was docking the boat and trying to get out not as Lim remember in flexible as I
once was not that I ever really was but I’m worse now lovely British couple helped yes helped to stabilized and gave me a hand top siiz cap size cap siiz it really only took us a few minutes to explore the island without going into the church the bang for your buck is really just getting out onto the [Music] lake it’s the hardest part I tell you all I need is some swans what do you want what do you want what do you want that’s a green flag right there put the notebook what do you want it’s not
that simple what do you want God damn it what do you want now let me tell you something the days of scouring the internet for the most affordable flight prices are over because now the fair drop team does that for you every day the fair drop team scans millions of flights to make sure that you’re getting notified of the biggest savings for the most exciting destinations now let me let you in on a little travel hack if you have a European holiday on your bucket list if you’re coming from the US or Canada
often times the most expensive part is just getting to Europe in the first place but what you may not know if you’re a firsttime visitor is that travel within Europe is relatively fast and affordable take this trip for example we were notified of a flight deal to Italy got to spend a few bonus days in Venice sipping apparal Spritz and then were’re able to hop over to our final destination slania now you probably know by now Tony and I love traveling and seeing the world but you know what we love even more seeing the
world knowing that we saved hundreds of dollars to do so so if you’re ready to cross some more countries off of your list scan the QR code or head to the link in the description of this video to start saving money on your travels and hopefully we’ll see you at the airport Slovenia has just one National Park but it covers a pretty big chunk of the country our next two stops will take us deep into that Park where we’ll explore some of its beautiful landscapes and waterfalls as Tony’s hair gets longer he
keeps doing like a 2008 Skater Boy like scoop out of the face so we are at vingar Gorge and vingar means Gorge so we’re at Gorge Gorge essentially I’m honestly not sure why we have these helmets I didn’t look into what the experience here is like so this is a little bit nerve-wracking this was only discovered 130 years ago which is crazy but the water is super blue and I think we’re going to see some really great [Music] views it’s why thing good so clear you can see straight to the bottom I want to dip in it
this glacial River has been carving out the gorge for over 10,000 years wow [Music] [Music] halfway through the hike there was this bridge that stretched over the waterfall next to that a little cafe serving Paka bread naturally we had to stop and try some and if you’re anything like us and had no clue what Paka bread is well let me Enlighten you it’s a traditional sanan pastry made by spreading a mixture of chop nuts honey butter cinnamon and raisins into yeast though then you roll it all up into a spiral and bake it
Sarah sticking with tradition ordered a cappuccino because well we’re not in Italy anymore and I went for a straight up espresso all over you moo moo [Music] moo oh that’s so nice I asked Sarah to sing us some show tunes on our way back that’s it so since I left me drummer at home I’d simply like to say thank you that our second stop on the other side of triglav National Park was the stunning slap parnik waterfall we right here we walk up when we get to the fork to turn right that’ll bring us behind
the waterfall or we can go down look at it and then backtrack total Trail distance 250 M nose picking is okay think sh I was looking at that sign down there and I didn’t realize that this is slovenia’s only National Park there’s also a sign that says this brown bear here there’s bears in these parts hopefully we don’t run into any kind of want to see one though but like at a [Music] distance there look like you get that wet but like all the water it’s like a whole Road just dripping down from the
Rocks so it’s like raining but it’s not raining oh my gosh like this whole big trail this huge cave covering and then the waterfall I thought it’d be like a lot closer they were like prepare to get soaked and I don’t think we’re going to get soaked going to be honest with you guys this is probably one of the most impressive waterfalls we’ve seen definitely up there with the ones we saw in Iceland but it’s warmer here but it’s warmer so that gives it a little bit of an edge I like how like the sun just
reflects off the water and then like hits the Rocks just right so it’s always a little bit of sunlight right behind the waterfall but it’s sunny but then the water coming off of the cave makes it look like it’s raining outside yeah so I thought it would take 20 minutes it took maybe 10 to get up here at the most at the most but the only thing you got to worry about is it’s wet so like you go underneath the waterfall have a rain jacket because you’re going to get a little bit wet and it’s a
little slippery and it’s a little slippery but well worth it oh my gosh also want to point out we did do the more difficult Trail but it wasn’t difficult at all they’re both marked very difficult I don’t think they’re very difficult but this is the secured one so they have this like barrier we went on the unsecured one so if you want something to hang on to take the one to the left I read I read we made our way back to Lake BL because there was one thing we had to try the famous bled cream cake
and lucky for us we had a tip from our friendly receptionist on where the locals go to get the best slice in town we go with the loc head yeah here in the center next to the main bus stop you have a pastry shop called zema great okay I’ll write down cake because this is important so and if you ever want to see Tony in his purest form just watch him when he gets his hands on some dessert you want to know how to tell the Taurus blood cake from like the actual original blood cake yeah it’s all in the wobble wobble baby wobble baby wobble
bab wobble it wobbles a lot it’s the real deal and this is wobbling it’s wobbling oh yeah wow delicious it still filming yeah feeling more than a little satisfied we made our way around town because there’s supposed to be some good tobogganing here but things didn’t exactly work out for us well we were going to do a tobogan ride as our last thing today but the wait time for this is 90 minutes so n not this time but if you do want to go on it for yourself it is €1 for the chairlift and one ride on the tobogan
for us 90 minutes is way too long of a wait time so we’re going to pass it with the toban being a bit crowded that gave us the perfect excuse to finally take a dip in Lake bled I mean how could you pass up a chance to swim in such a stunning spot right the water was crystal clear and after all that exploring a quick swim was exactly what we needed so [Music] nice it’s time to wrap up our stay in the Northwest and head a little bit further south for two of slovenia’s most popular attractions at ponia Cave Park
I like to consider myself somewhat of a cave Enthusiast so when I learned you could not only tour incredible Limestone caves but it also includes a train ride through the caves I said sign me up just like Disney let’s go want to go I want to go our tour kicked off with a 15-minute train ride deep into the cave system in the first few minutes no joke I thought was just a roller coaster and somewhere along the line we were just going to have a big drop but this was such a wild experience and I think for both of us we would probably
do this again more than a few times oh this is wild [Music] [Music] [Music] after the train ride is over a tour guide walks you through what we would learn is the largest known cave Network in all of Europe our audio tour gave us a little bit of everything the history of the cave science facts and it pointed out notable structures along the way [Music] another cool feature is to have the
world’s only cave post office which you can actually still send off bail and after about 90 minutes the train takes you back to the entrance and the tour is over oh we also learned that there’s kind of an origin story or mythology around the dragons here it’s basically because they used to believe these little aquatic cave dwelling salamanders called MMS were baby dragons feel so good out here now I’m going to say that for 5 minutes and then I’ll be complaining we’ve been in a lot of caves
over our six and 1 half year relationship and that I think was the coolest it was like the biggest the grandest the most impressive ballrooms and there’s a train like and there’s a train felt like I was going through the the under floors of gring gots this was cool yeah it was really cool definitely worth the money I was kind of because it wasn’t like it’s not super expensive and it’s not like super budget but I think it was worth money it was awesome just bring a jacket because the train does
get cold and then make sure your shoes have traction because mine do not and I was slipping insiding everywhere there are a lot of warnings that tell you to wear a coat and you can buy one for like € we didn’t listen clearly we don’t really have winter clothes true and it’s like 90° out here 30° Celsius Fahrenheit Celsius C Celsius so we don’t have a lot of winter cloth so we kind of just toughed it out yeah was fine it’s 50 50 Fahrenheit in there which we’re used to we we left one cave behind and set off
for another this time to pram Castle but this isn’t your typical Castle it’s like a fairy tale castle inside of a cave will you build me a castle on the side of the mountain sure what money and resources I got $7 yeah me too you got 15 okay we’re a little broke to buy a castle so we’ll just pretend that we’re royalty while we’re here this has to be one of the most unique castles we’ve ever seen granted we have not seen that many castles tickets to the castle were 19 Euros and there’s an audio app on their
website that’s supposed to guide you through the tour it didn’t work for us so we took matters into our own hands and decided to act it out ourselves our version of medieval history might not be 100% accurate but it was definitely entertaining welcome to my balcony it’s where I spend most of my time you know just thinking about life this is kind of random but being in this Castle more specifically this bell sound is reminding me a lot of Monty Python and the Holy Grail whose Castle is this this is the castle of my
bring out W this is cool we spent the rest of the afternoon learning more about medieval armor and weapons and even exploring the cave at the top of the castle before before driving to coper the coastal towns of Slovenia are some of the most gorgeous towns we’ve been to being nestled between Italy and Croatia’s Coast it truly makes it feel like this area gets overlooked we spent a night in CPR eating truffle pasta and on our last morning we ventured around puron [Music] [Music]
Pon may be tiny and you can cover the famous attractions in must in just a couple of hours but the surrounding area and the Slovenian Coast itself are absolutely beautiful and totally worth taking the extra time to explore we stopped into a local cafe for Cofe and a surprisingly ridiculously cute breakfast my yogurt bowl and Tony’s pancakes look like they belonged in a magazine almost too pretty to eat but don’t worry we managed we paid €21 for our breakfast and then continued around town for a bit longer scoping out my new home
[Music] this town is so stinking cute I wish we had more time here cuz it is so beautiful it’s right on the coast it kind of juts out a little bit further into the sea than the rest of the coastline and it’s just so picturesque and I think probably a little like under the radar one of the benefits and then also challenges of this town is that you can’t drive in so you have to park kind of outside of the city and then walk in outside of the city it was like a 5 to 10 minute walk downhill which means it’s
going to be uphill on the way back during the day they also offer free shuttles from like those parking areas into town like listen to the Bell are you serious so cute so what are our first impressions of svenia well let’s just say it absolutely knocked any expectation we had out of the park the waterfalls the quiet Fairy Tale charm of Lake blad and even the unexpected magic of tiny coastal towns like pan this country has left a much bigger impression on us than we ever could have imagined sylenia might be small in size but it’s
overflowing with natural beauty and truly feels like a Hidden Gem in the heart of Europe and it is a rolled dumpling right a rolled dumpling usually made Savory with I just smacked the spider web oh God don’t drop the camera give me the camera give me the camera give me the camera it’s recording I know you
